This weekend was fast and fun. It was dance recital weekend, and how fitting to put dance recital on Mother’s Day weekend, because if ever a thing existed that forces a mom to show what she’s made of, it’s dance recital. There were women running around with giant plastic tubs filled with all of the various costumes, hairpieces, tights, shoes, and makeup that their daughters needed to pull off a great show.
To add to the excitement, Texas has been tornado alley for the past week, and we had a giant funnel hanging over our heads at recital time. But, you know what they say: the show must go on!
When we got in the car after church, barely three-year-old Emerald said, “Happy Mother’s Day, Mama!” I thanked her and reveled for a moment in the cuteness. Then, she turned to her Daddy and said, “Happy Mother’s Day, Daddy!” Hmm.
I asked her if she knows what a mother is. No idea.
But, once she learned that a mother is the same thing as a mama, she kept patting Sawyer’s arm, pointing to me, and saying, “She’s my MUH-THURR,” as if she were speaking to someone who doesn’t understand English.
Regardless of the fact that she had no clue why she was doing it, she did make me an adorable Mother’s Day gift. And, I was reminded once again how blessed I am, looking at her little handprints. Thinking of how quickly time passes, and how much I want to make an imprint on these little hearts and minds in my care while I have the chance.
Chad and I sang a song in church based on the Love Chapter. It’s such a good reminder to all of us, when sometimes days are hard and we miss people we love and we feel empty spots in our lives where we thought little children would be and we have children who are wayward and our marriages are difficult–that God’s love is perfect, and it never fails us. You can listen below if you like. (The recording is a little low, so you may have to crank up the volume!) Blessings on another Monday. Let’s remember God’s love today.
