So, guess where I am? I’ll give you a hint:
Okay, so that was a really, really big hint. Chad and I are in Midland, Texas, making a record. You heard me! We’re making a real life, professional engineer, top-of-the-line studio equipment, real session players record! Can you tell I’m a little excited?
How we got here is one of those only-God-could-do-this type of things.
It all started last year when Chad was starting to feel like he needed a little more creativity in his life. He’s always loved writing and recording music, so he decided he would challenge himself to write and record a new song every week in 2013. So, he started. He had just gotten a banjo, and since he was having fun playing around with that, a lot of the songs had a bluegrass and country feel to them. He made it through week eight in 2013 before he decided he really didn’t have time to write a song every week and record it in our garage. And, that was the end of that.
Fast forward a few months. We moved to Olney. We sang at a funeral. And, there just happened to be an incredibly generous oil man from Midland in the audience who just happened to have recently built an amazing recording studio. And, he invited us to come out and record the song we sang at the funeral. And, while you’re at it, he said, why don’t you record eight or ten other songs?
Well, Chad just happened to have eight brand new songs that he had written last year. Can you believe that? I mean, really.
So, here we are! And, by the way, we have NO children with us on this trip. That, my friends, is a miracle in itself.
If you want to know the short version of the really, really long story, Chad has been in recording studios before. In another life, he was in a band in Nashville, (the Luxury Liners) trying to make it big. We had so much fun living in Nashville, but that didn’t last too long before he decided to go to law school. After practicing law for several years, he felt like God was calling him to ministry, and he became the worship leader at a church in Texarkana. Five years later, we landed in Olney. So, my rock star, turned lawyer, turned worship leader, turned pastor husband is finally back in a recording studio a good fifteen years later.
And God has been in it all. Following Him can really be fun.
I’m sure I’ll have more stories to tell about this experience. In the meantime, I’ve got important things to do. Like wear headphones. Drink all the Cokes I want. Oh yeah, and make a record. Totally awesome.

I love this post!!! It’s fun, it’s glorifying to God and beautifully done….and yes, you certainly were cute back then. 🙂 How neat that God brings us full circle after honing us and shaping us and doing amazing things in our lives during the journey. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
