Ah, Vacation Bible School. One of my very favorite times of the year. Seriously. It ranks right up there with Christmas and Easter on the fun-o-meter in my brain. I don’t know if it’s the singing and dancing or if it’s the fun games and creative snacks or if it’s the pledges (yes, I said it). But, for me everything about VBS is 100% fun.
The theme this year has us pretending to be secret agents, and I’m teaching a class of seriously sweet third graders. When I see the rowdy fifth and sixth graders tumbling in and out of the room, I feel so happy to have my precious third grade sweethearts, too old to cry for their mamas and too young to give any attitude. I totally love their enthusiasm and their openness.
This is the first year Emerald’s been old enough for a “real” VBS class, and she is having the time of her life. Between a bubble machine and the special spy sunglasses and the super cool jetpacks her teacher made for her to wear on her back, she thinks she is a true secret agent. Actually, I’m not sure what she thinks she is, but she is feeling like a big kid for sure.
Tomorrow is day three, and let’s just say that I had to take a nap before tackling day two. But, it’s an honor to be there, teaching the kids about Jesus. I’m reminded how incredible the people of our church are. I’m praying that God works in the lives of some special third graders.
Oh, and if you need me any afternoon this week, I’ll be napping.

Going to our local VBS when I was a kid is a big reason I’m a believer today 🙂 I won my first Bible in a drawing at the end of that VBS. Great memories!
