The past few weeks have been a little weird, with vacation and then preteen camp. I feel like I’ve neglected you, friends! But, I’m still here, just trying to ignore the fact that August is here, and therefore school will soon be here, and therefore I will soon be doing that whole thing where I am terribly lonely and pining for my children for several weeks. But, as always happens, I will get into a routine and I’ll figure out how to fill the days while they enjoy school. Thank Heavens I still have little Emerald at home for one more year.
Summer always, always goes by way too fast.
Since I’ve been a little bit absent for awhile, I wanted to catch you up on a few things. First, have you seen the big birthday celebration giveaway that I’m doing on my Facebook page? Go and like my giveaway post for a chance to win one of three copies of our CD, Beautiful Feet!
And, yes, my birthday came and went this weekend. I turned 39, which is almost impossible for me to believe. How in the world did I become an almost-40-year-old lady? I mean, it’s LADY now, not girl. Not young person. Lady. As in “ma’am.” As in I’m buying wrinkle cream for myself as a birthday present. Almost all of my friends are young and hip. I feel like I am one of them. But, then I see the fact that some of them were born in the 90s. I mean, for real. The 90s. What in the world? And, then I wonder if they see me as just a somewhat lame old lady. I think my only saving grace is the fact that I don’t have any gray hair yet. And, I also have a four year old. Yay for mothers who got the “advanced maternal age” speech while pregnant! These babes will keep us all young, girls! Right? Right??
So, maybe I’m having a tad bit of anxiety about beginning the final year of my thirties.
I also want to tell you guys that I recently dipped my toes into the world of essential oils. I know practically nothing about them, but I know a gal who does, and she LOVES teaching people all about them. She has a passion for natural living and really believes in her essential oils! She sent me some lemon, peppermint, and lavender, plus a bug repellent called Terrashield. And, I can tell you, we NEED all the help we can get with mosquitoes down here in Texas! You can check out Shelley’s website here, and she has given me permission to pass along her email address to anyone who has questions or needs support or would like to hear her story and how she became such a believer in oils. Just let me know if you’d like to contact her. And, if you’re an oil expert, tell me what you love to use lemon, peppermint, and lavender for!
I don’t know how many of you are in Texas or near the metroplex, but I’m going to be speaking at a women’s event at Living Hope Baptist Church in Garland on September 10th! If you’d like more information about that event, please let me know! I would love to get to meet you in person.
Okay, I think I have you all caught up on the things I’ve been trying to remember to tell you. Thanks for your patience this summer. Don’t forget to go and enter my giveaway! I would love to send you a CD in celebration of my elderly-ness. I think I just made up that word.
Winners will be announced Monday, August 1st!

Ha! You are so funny! I just turned 56 over the weekend and I had the exact same thoughts about all my mid-40’s friends. I feel 35 until I’m shocked into reality at my refection! And yes, children keep you young.–I had my 8th child at 42,. I just said something to my girls the other day about a group of “old ladies” and had the sad realization they were probably in their 60s. Yikes!
Blessings to you and happy birthday!
Lloyd
You look very nice a very happy lady
